There is some confusion over the correct use of the words "succeed", "success" and "successful".
The word "succeed" is a verb, so for example :
"We succeeded in launching the product ahead of schedule."
Notice the verb form "in doing something" after the verb "succeed".
Another example : "We are hoping to succeed where our competitors failed."
On the other hand, "success" is a noun, so we use it as follows :
"We didn't have much success in the Chinese market", and
"I wish you every success in your new position".
And now an example of "successful" :
I think we all agree that Windows XP was much more successful than Vista.
