To be successful

There is some confusion over the correct use of the words "succeed", "success" and "successful".

The word "succeed" is a verb, so for example :

"We succeeded in launching the product ahead of schedule."

Notice the verb form "in doing something" after the verb "succeed".

Another example : "We are hoping to succeed where our competitors failed."

On the other hand, "success" is a noun, so we use it as follows :

"We didn't have much success in the Chinese market", and

"I wish you every success in your new position".

And now an example of "successful" :

I think we all agree that Windows XP was much more successful than Vista.

Finally, remember that to be successful in international business, you need to practice your English !
